Quest: More Followers than Danell Leyva’s Towel
By Kate Bachman | August 2, 2012
Category:Just as I was in the throes of a mini-celebration because the number of followers of my Twitter site, @greenmanufacts, passed a mini-milestone (500), I discovered something that brought my mini-celebration to a mega-halt:
Olympics 2012 US gymnast Danell Leyva’s towel has its own Twitter account with even more followers. That’s right, his towel. Apparently the towel, which is Leyva’s good luck charm, security blanket and privacy tent, is so popular, it has its own Twitter account, @LeyvasTowel. Leyva says he wraps the gray-blue towel with its sun, moon and stars pattern around his gymnast body and over his head between events to block out distractions.
Since being publicized, the site’s popularity has soared beyond 10,739 followers.
Just goes to show you, you can never rest on your laurels. Before you know it, a famous towel can surpass you.
Oh, sure, his spectacular performances in the men’s gymnastics, especially his high bar routine on Wednesday, is impressive—but for your towel have its own Twitter following is downright awe-inspiring.
The towel’s tweets are rather egotistical and unsubstantial though, with tweets like, “OMG! It’s a fluff piece all about meeeee!” and “CLAP CLAP .. CLAP CLAP.”
Please help me in my quest to surge ahead of Leyva’s towel by following Green Manufacturer @greenmanufacts. I promise that my tweets will be much less fluffy.
