The new year brings fresh energy, renewed goals, and a new cohort of SparkForce scholarship recipients ready to take the next step in their manufacturing careers. As the industry continues to evolve, the need for skilled talent has never been more urgent.

Even with the rapid adoption of automation, advanced technology, and AI, manufacturing continues to face a significant workforce shortage. Today, more than 400,000 manufacturing jobs remain unfilled, making talent attraction and retention a top concern for manufacturers nationwide. Building a strong, skilled workforce isn’t just important; it’s essential to the industry’s long-term growth and competitiveness.

Removing Financial Barriers to Education and Training

SparkForce, the FMA Foundation, is helping meet this challenge by investing directly in the next generation of manufacturing professionals. From inspiring early interest through hands-on summer camps to expanding access to education and training, SparkForce is focused on creating pathways into modern manufacturing careers.

By removing financial barriers to degree and certificate programs, SparkForce helps students focus on gaining the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s high-tech manufacturing environment without the added stress of financial strain.

Building the Manufacturing Talent Pipeline

For the Spring 2026 term, SparkForce awarded 52 scholarships totaling $104,000. These scholarships support students enrolled in two- and four-year programs across a range of manufacturing disciplines, including Industrial Engineering, Structural Welding, Metal Fabrication Technology, and Robotics.

The impact of this support is immediate and meaningful. As one student from Pennsylvania College of Technology shared:

“Getting the SparkForce scholarship took away some financial needs, so I’m able to work hard and pursue my career.”

Stories like this highlight how access to financial support can allow students to stay focused, persist in their programs, and prepare for successful careers in manufacturing.
