The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association is proud to announce the formation of a new affiliate, the Association of Metal Processors and Distributors (AMPD).
Formerly known as the Association of Steel Distributors (ASD), AMPD brings together the natural synergies of steel distribution and metals processing with the merging of the ASD and FMA’s Metal Processors Council. Founded in 1943, ASD became an FMA affiliate in 2018. Over the years, it has provided members with leadership opportunities on its Advisory Board; held educational events and conferences; and hosted networking events with experts and peers in the steel distribution community. The Metal Processors Council has provided networking opportunities with others in the metals processing community and hosted educational events and conferences as well. Both organizations have been long-time supporters of industry scholarships for those interested in careers in the steel and metal processing industries.
“The ASD has a great tradition of networking education in the steel industry. I’m confident that combining our group with the Metals Processing Council will expand our membership reach and provide a more complete representation of the metals industry, said Michael Barnett, chairman of the AMPD. “We will maintain the rich history of the ASD together by continuing to bring individuals in the steel industry and recognize our Steel Executive of the Year, which we have named since 1956.”
“The FMA is uniquely positioned to help bring this new group into the industry, where we aim to make a meaningful impact across the metals industry,” said FMA Director of Membership and Education Patrick Simon. “Our focus will be threefold: fundraising, networking, and education. We must further the industry by giving back to the next generation.
“This reset is a strategic move to better engage the metals side of the business we serve through our core fabrication users who purchase and manufacture parts from mills, suppliers, and processors,” Simon added.
